The park is inside the Atlantic Forest biome. It addresses a place of forty eight,three hundred hectares (119,000 acres). It was set up by decree on six July 1961, which is administered through the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation. It handles portions of the municipalities of Uru
